Candy Apple Kisses - Book Review

Amy Clipston knows how to write a sweet love story and her newest novel, Candy Apple Kisses, is a perfect example of this. This lighthearted read will immerse readers into fall despite the summer temperatures. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers tropes, especially childhood friends, so the book immediately endeared itself to me. If you liked Second Chance at Sunshine Inn by Clipston or Kathleen Fuller's Maple Falls series, you will love Candy Apple Kisses.

Plot Summary

Emily Carmichael drops everything and returns to her home town of Splendid Lake as soon as her best friend Jake Hughes asks for her help at his family's apple orchard. While Jake needs Emily's help since there's competition that's driving business away from the orchard and his dad is recovering from medical crisis, his main reason for calling Emily is to convince her to move back to town. Though Emily loves being near Jake again, painful memories that meet her at every turn and her unrequited crush on Jake makes it difficult to stay. As the two throw themselves into driving customers to the orchard, Jake slowly becomes aware of that his friendship with Emily could morph into more. This fall may bring the fulfillment of Emily's dreams and give both her and Jake a chance at something sweeter than friendship.

Personal Thoughts

Jake and Emily are clearly the best of friends and I love how they knew *everything* about each other. I chuckled as Jake slowly realized he was in love with Emily; when they finally admitted their feelings for each other, it was so cute! I appreciated that they made an effort to communicate with each other and not make too many assumptions about what was going on. Even when there were misunderstandings, they took the time to reflect and clear things up. As they worked to save the apple orchard, I cheered them on. All throughout the book I felt like I was immersed in fall, which made me wish for orange leaves and sweaters.
