Closer Than She Knows - Book Review

Closer Than She Knows - Book Review

Closer Than She Knows by Kelly Irvin is a low-spice romantic suspense novel with a high-stakes serial killer plot. Face-paced and packed with action, this standalone novel will have you up past midnight. If you loved Still Life by Dani Pettrey or Never Fall Again by Lynn H. Blackburn, you will enjoy Closer Than She Knows.

Plot Summary

Court reporter Teagan O’Rourke’s life is turned upside down when she becomes the target of a serial killer who methodically takes out her female colleagues and friends. His pattern matches that of a killer her father put away years ago, but they are unsure if it’s a copycat or if the man is back. But her family and friends close ranks and vow to keep her safe, including Max Reynolds, her friend who wants to become more.

Max senses Teagan is willing to take the next step, but he doesn’t know what is holding her back. Their forced proximity brings things to a boil and they can’t deny their love. But as the killer draws closer, the less likely they’ll have a future together if they don’t find out the identity of the man first.

Personal Thoughts

This book started out with a bang and didn't slow down until the end. I had a hard time pinpointing who the killer was and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I felt the author put a unique spin on the typical "serial killer" plot line.

I always enjoy friends-to-lovers tropes, so I knew when I opened the book that I would most likely enjoy Teagan and Max's relationship. Though they each had something to work through, their relationship was pretty low-drama. That is, as low-drama as possible with a serial killer after Teagan.
