I've had this one on my TBR for awhile, so when I saw it on clearance, you can I bet I snatched it up. While the subject matter of Dangerous Beauty is serious, Melissa Koslin manages to wrap in a sweet love story within the unhappy circumstances. If you enjoyed Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey and Called to Protect by Lynette Eason, then you'll love Dangerous Beauty.
Plot Summary
Liliana Vela takes shelter from those trafficking her to her buyer in a gas station bathroom and before the night ends she's married to the man who rescued her. Meric Toledan uses his money and power to help people like Liliana, but he's never been rash enough to marry a trafficking survivor. With her buyer still in the wind, the couple takes every precaution while preparing for whatever means he'll use to track Liliana down.
Though the marriage isn't real, each grows to care about the other. When the couple goes into hiding to throw the buyer off their scent, Liliana still inserts herself in Meric's cases. But fighting for justice may lead them right into the hands of the man they're avoiding at all costs.
Personal Thoughts
I flew through this novel. Liliana was feisty and tenacious, with a heart for helping women who were in her situation. The M in Meric stands for mysterious; his words and actions during the first half of the book brought more questions than answers. I liked how the author kept his position a secret for so long; it really amped up the suspense.
The author handled the heavy subject matter in a tactful, sensitive way. She conveyed the evils of human trafficking without being graphic. I didn't expect for her to tie Liliana's buyer in with Meric's past.
Notes
Steam Level: 💋💋
Trigger Warnings: Human trafficking, sexual molestation/rape, and trauma sustained by trafficking survivors are mentioned, though nothing is graphic.
