First Love, Second Draft - Book Review

First Love, Second Draft - Book Review

Very few writers are as funny as Becca Kinzer and First Love, Second Draft is one of my favorites by her. Though reading about a divorced couple may seem depressing, this is actually a humorous book with little negative drama. If you enjoyed Kinzer's previous novels, you will love First Love, Second Draft.

Plot Summary

Rom-com author Gracie Parker hasn’t written a bestseller since she and her baseball pro husband Noah divorced five years ago. A recent injury leaves her helpless, the deadline for her dying book haunts her, and the last thing she needs is her back-stabbing nephew calling Noah to come take care of her. But Noah shows up to help her with her recovery after being kicked off his team and she struggles to maintain her ice queen façade when it's clear their love never died.

Noah never let go of Gracie and he sees this as his chance to get their marriage back. But his stubborn ex-wife avoids him and their past as much as possible and the chance of them reuniting grows smaller as her recovery progresses. Noah and Gracie will have to confront the memories and hardships that led to their divorce if they have any chance of reuniting.

Personal Thoughts

Despite being a royal mess, Gracie and Noah are one of my favorite literary couples. They had their issues, but they also had undeniable chemistry and some of the best banter I've ever read. I also felt like the way they handled their conflict was realistic and angst-free.

I also really liked the side plot! Matt and Rachel were pure comedy. Not only were they quirky individuals, but their transition from friends to lovers was ... bumpy, to say the least. But since I like anything friends-to-lovers, I adored them.
