Two weeks ago I reviewed the first book in Lynn H. Blackburn's Defend and Protect series. This week I'm doing the second book in the series, Malicious Intent. If you've already read Unknown Threat, you'll know the main characters in this book! If you've enjoyed any of Blackburn's works, you will love Malicious Intent.
Plot Summary
Dr. Ivy Collins is ready to launch her new innovative prosthetic when she's attacked by masked men in her home and rescue by her childhood best friend and crush, Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon. He assumes the role of her protector and brings her into his circle of friends so they can all shield her until they uncover the reason behind her attack. Despite all his kind actions and the new friends she makes, she knows they can never go back to what they were before.
Gil wants nothing more than to discover why Ivy dropped him out of her life. But their fractured relationship takes the backseat as an unknown mastermind continues to pull strings and put Ivy in danger. Ivy's past may be the key to the whole mystery, but will they find out in time to save Ivy's work and her life?
Personal Thoughts
Ivy was introduced in Unknown Threat, where her connection to Gil is hinted at. Here it is fully explored. The reason behind their split was understandable and Blackburn handles it well. I love Gil's unique personality and how Ivy offsets him.
As usual, I had no clue what was going on (a common occurrence with Blackburn's books 🙃). I loved how much Dr. Sabrina Campbell (from the Dive Team Investigations series) was present. The climax was unusual and brought a exceptional end to the story.
