Point of Danger - Book Review

Point of Danger - Book Review

I don't know about you, but sometimes I need a book that's going to put me on the edge of my seat. Point of Danger by Irene Hannon came along just when I needed that. Fans of Irene Hannon's Code of Honor series and Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series will love Point of Danger.

Plot Summary

Conservative radio talk show host Eve Reilly is used to hate mail and disgruntled listeners. Bombs on her front porch are another matter and the St. Louis police department is as perplexed as she is. Who would be so angry with her that they would plant a bomb?

Police Detective Brent Lange doesn't plan on sparks flying between him and the fiery radio host while he works on her case. He swore off relationships years ago, yet he can't deny the hold Eve has on him. As time ticks away and a volatile group turns their attention on her, he vows to keep her safe. But that vow becomes harder to keep as her enemy continues to close in and their identity remains unknown.

Content Warnings

Part of the plot is centered on political groups and opinions. If you lean right, this probably won't bother you. If you lean left, you might end up skimming some sections.

Personal Thoughts

Eve sounded like someone I could be friends with. She's sweet and caring, but she's got an opinion and she's not afraid to share it. When danger cropped up she took precautions. but she didn't let it stop her life. And she was willing to put herself on the line in order to help others. I loved her relationship with her sisters. In some ways it reminded me of my own relationship with my sister. And I'll be able to see them again because the next two books in the series are about them (yay!).

Brent was like a lost, abused puppy. Because of circumstances in his childhood which shaped his personality, he believed he shouldn't be in a relationship. But gradually he learned he didn't have to let his past shape his present and he could learn how to break his bad relationship habits. Eve had to prod him along a little bit, but he got there ðŸ˜‚

Like Irene Hannon's previous series, the plot was twisty and kept me guessing until the end. The last major plot twist was so unexpected; I totally did not see it coming. I liked how the side plots with Meg and Steve fed into the main plot. Steve was ... ugh. The controlling jerk frustrated me to no end. I'm pretty sure my blood pressure rose a few points because of him. Thank God Meg grew a spine and quit taking his nonsense! At first I thought the side plot with Doug and Carolyn didn't contribute much, but another unexpected occurrence changed my mind.

Despite multiple POVs all of the characters' voices were distinct and I never got confused.
