The last few weeks have been focused on Lynn H. Blackburn's Defend and Protect series. Under Fire is the last book in the series and it's my personal favorite. If you enjoyed the previous two books, you will love the conclusion of this series.
Plot Summary
Secret Service Agent Tessa Reed is given the weighty task of preparing for the president's visit, but her excitement for the job entrusted to her can't compare to her joy over seeing Zane Thatcher, her fellow agent and long-time best friend. Even though she wants nothing more than to take things to the next level with him, she knows he won't marry a woman with her issues. Her relationship with Zane becomes the least of her problems when someone threatens her and attempts to take her life.
Zane is ready to tackle the attraction he and Tessa have been battling for years. When someone begins to stalk her and try to kill her, his new priority is to protect her as she perseveres in doing her job. But the tension between them can only last so long before something explodes and what they do in the aftermath will change their relationship.
Personal Thoughts
Zane and Tessa are my favorite couple in this series! All throughout the series we know there's some mysterious reason why they can't (or won't) be together but we're never told why. Blackburn reveals it all here. I loved their friends-to-lovers romance and how they were able to finally get there after dancing around it for so long. It was wonderful to see all the characters from the previous stories in this book.
I liked how Tessa's case intertwined with the president's visit. I thought the two were separate until the very end. Henry Littlefield was annoying and I couldn't wait for someone to deal with him. All in all, it was a wonderful conclusion to the series.
