Lynn H. Blackburn is one of the best romantic suspense writers I've ever read. All of her series are wonderful, but if you have never read her before, her Defend and Protect series is a great place to start. The first book, Unknown Threat, is a fantastic start to the series. If you enjoyed Dani Pettrey's Chesapeake Valor series, you will love Unknown Threat.
Plot Summary
Secret Service agent Luke Powell is reeling from the death of his mentor when he and his friend barely escape from a car explosion. When two other Secret Service agents from his office are killed, it's determined that their office is being targeted specifically. But why? The case has been placed into the hands of one of the FBI's competent agents. Except there's one problem: Luke doesn't trust the FBI to handle any case without botching it.
Special Agent Faith Malone throws herself into the case and ignores Luke's hostility towards the FBI, as well as the interest brewing between them. But the investigation leads to more questions than answers and Faith can't find a motive or the killer to save the agents' lives. What will it take for Faith and Luke to uncover the truth, both about the case and their hearts?
Personal Thoughts
Gah, I love Faith and Luke! Faith's tough, intense, and doesn't take anyone's nonsense. Luke's rough around the edges and loyal to everyone he holds dear. I love how he tries to ignore how much he cares for Faith, but at the same time realizes he's failing miserably.
I loved all the characters in this book, not just the protagonists. The friend group Blackburn forms in this book is wonderful. Each character is quirky and unique, but they all fit together in an odd way.
The case had so many twists and turns, I never knew what would happen next. But the pressure was intense and I raced to the end to find out who the criminal was. All in all, it was wonderful.
