Romance with a slice of murder, anyone? Without a Clue by Melissa Ferguson is perfect for anyone who loves lighthearted mysteries, quirky characters, and friends-to-lovers tropes. If you have enjoyed Ferguson's other stories in the past, then you will love Without a Clue. Today will just be a quick post, but I encourage you to check out this book.
Plot Summary
Penelope Mae Dupont, aka Pip, is known for keeping her cool and arranging anything and everything to perfection. Her skills are tested when she organizes a book cruise for The Magnificent Seven - a group of bestselling authors - and their readers. On the second day of the cruise, mystery author Hugh Griffin is murdered, and the clues hint that one of the seven is the culprit.
With the help of Western writer Nash, Pip must keep everything running and solve the case. But as the clues become more and more twisty, she begins to question everyone and everything, including the possible romance developing between her and Nash. Will Pip solve the mystery before the cruise ends, or will the puzzles remain unsolved?
Personal Thoughts
It's not often a rom-com encompasses a murder mystery, but Ferguson managed to pull it off. While there was plenty of humor and lightheartedness, there was also a lot of intrigue. The case was so twisty, I had no idea what was going on until the very end.
Authors are known for being a bit quirky, but Ferguson took it to the next level. The Magnificent Seven were all so different from each other, which provided some wonderful entertainment. I think Neena was my favorite author, aside from Nash. Though Ricky was entertaining in a creepy sort of way. Nash and Pip were an adorable couple and the best sleuthing pair.
